Client's Requests
To design a house that acknowledges and celebrates the two existing rock outcrops and nurtures the existing family spirit based on togetherness.
Architectural Solution
The major idea behind the design is the integration into the site and its awareness of the site conditions. Shadows and light become the main features of the composition while the expression of long horizontal lines complements rather than competes with the rock outcrops.
Large unobstructed openings, clerestory windows and a light interior palette constitute the perfect remedy for the soft and subdued light experienced in the Pacific Northwest. In the same vein, the great room’s immediate exterior space is protected by generous overhangs punctuated with skylights allowing light to filter through.
