PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Revelstoke . BC . Canada . 2007-2008

Michel Laflamme Architect, Ron Mikulik

Context
This custom-designed house is located at the edge of a bluff in spectacular Revelstoke, British Columbia near the newly expanded Revelstoke mountain ski resort.

Design Concept
To create a clear layout that takes full advantage of the site's attributes with the purpose of enhancing the occupant's sensorial experience towards that site.

Result
The house's layout takes advantage of 270 degree views, enabling a view of all four surrounding mountains. A view court hangs over the ridge giving one the feeling of a bird soaring over the valley below, while a sun deck, with hot tub, captures both sunrise and sunsets. Upon testing many roof variations, we opted for a single slope with the south elevation inflecting toward the view and sun while directing snowdrifts northward. The curves are inspired by the soft form of snow-covered Revelstoke winter landscape.
